Coaching Teens & Young Adults Through the Career Direction Setting Process

How do you adequately guide today’s youth to be career ready and launch effectively into the job market? This interactive webinar is for career coaches and career counselors who work with teens and young adults. You will be introduced to a 5-step model for helping your clients develop good fit career plans during the coaching engagement. You will learn a process for guiding clients to test their assumptions about various career options and do the requisite research to make better informed choices about educational options, internships, extracurricular activities and, ultimately, be better prepared to successfully enter the world of work.

Materials include – 2 books which specifically focus on working one-on-one or in small groups with teens and young adults – “What Color Is Your Parachute for Teens,” and, “Transform Interests Into Jobs: A Career Practitioner’s Guide.”

In 2 short sessions, you will: 

  • Review the elements of a self-directed approach to career exploration
  • Learn about a 5-Step Model for identifying and pursuing a good fit career path
  • Acquire a tool which helps clients/students retrieve comparative information about various career options and discuss ways to help them draw conclusions from their research
  • Discuss coaching questions to use when debriefing the information gathered using the tools mentioned above. As mentioned in the ICF Core Competencies you will cover questions that:
    • Reflect active listening and an understanding of the client’s perspective
    • Encourage inquiry for greater understanding, awareness and clarity
    • Help the client:
      • Identify underlying concerns, typical and fixed ways of perceiving himself/ herself and the world.
      • Uncover differences between facts and interpretation.
  • Be introduced to a three-part planning tool to help clients/students reach specific career goals when financial considerations, academic performance (GPA or test scores), or opportunity in a locality limit options.

3 CE credits for Career Coaches are available for BCC coaches.

Terms and Conditions: There are only 25 openings in this program. Registrations will be processed as of the date that I receive them. If the class is filled, I will notify you as soon as possible. In addition, I reserve the right to cancel the program if, by September 27, I have fewer than 5 registrants. If that happens, all deposits will be refunded. Cancellations between 04/01/2018 and 09/27/2018 will result in a $50 administrative fee.  After 09/27, if participants are ill, or otherwise are unable to participate, on the date of the webinar, the webinar will be recorded and access to the recording will be provided for a two-week period. Books will be ordered by 09/28 and sent to the participant’s address as listed on the registration form.
